One's soul can't help but elevate when in the presence
of works by Anna Andreadi. In her sculptures and paintings
you can see captured moments and innocent emotions that
seem as if time were still passing through them. A man lying
beneath a tree, a dancer, a bicycle, a man and wife, appear
as if innocent and peacefully free from the worlds racket
in their still form, simple forms that attract your eye
and make it difficult to keep from daydreaming. Perhaps
it is the mood of optimism and calmness in which they are
constructed, a mood Anna explains, which has been characteristic
of her work from the beginning. Although the forms of her
work have changed since 1983, when she originally began
with ceramics, this gentle spirit that comes through in
her work has always been apparent. With complimenting combinations
of vibrant colors and individual construction of each piece
by hand, the result is a single expression that with energy
and life.
Anna's formal art studies were completed at the International
School of Kilchberg, Zurich in 1975. After having learned
the basics, she began a continuing course of searching and
experimentation on her own, preferring to work personally
with other artists to develop her skills and explore the
tendencies of new materials.
Anna is best known today for her work as a painter and
sculptor using bronze, aluminum, iron and other metals.
Acrylic paints on wood and mixed materials are often combined
to create textured backgrounds for small figures. Her talent
has been commissioned by a long list of prominent organizations
and companies, including the designing of special awards
for theater and cinema ceremonies, sporting events and politicians.
She is also proactive in organizing and promoting the contemporary
Greek artists.
Anna and her husband run Themis Art Gallery in Nea Smyrni
(just a short ride from the center of Athens), where you
will can view her entire collection. It is well worth the
time to make a trip to the gallery! Orders may also be placed
online through their website.
Anna's work is also sold at other select galleries in Greece,
England, Cyprus, Italy, Japan, Belgium and Australia.
