This shop owned by Athanasios Aschimakopoulos produces
some of the best silver and gold jewelry I have ever seen.
The village of Stemnítsa is home to one of Greece's
oldest gemology institutes, which is still churning out
Greece's best jewel designers.
This fascinating village is unlike any other and their
jewelry is representative of that. Inside this shop you
will be able to watch the craftsmen at work while you browse
mesmerized by the quality and form of each piece. For me,
particularly, it was their religious cross charms that made
me hold my breath. Time seemed to stop for a moment while
I took in as many as I could with my eyes. I was overwhelmed
at the care and precision found here in this mountaintop
shop sitting amongst a mystical fog and green peaks. The
miraculous strength and unearthly lifetime of the entire
village was apparent. I can only compare it to what it would
be like to find gold at the end of the rainbow. Here are
