43rd "Modern
Creations Exhibition"
participating with the "Conjectural Creations Exhibition"
GreekShoppingGuide.com
was at the recent art exhibition in Athens, Greece continuing
our efforts step-by-step to build a comprehensive online
resource for businesses and art lovers. Until now, attending
art tradeshows in Greece was really the only way to discover
what's available in the Greek market and begin a business
relationship. Once the exhibitions end and the artists are
back in their villages and workshops, making contact can
be difficult if you are looking to reach them from outside
Greece. This is mainly because most have yet to create informative
websites or online catalogs (I am still impressed to find
some with a computer.). So, we at GreekShoppingGuide.com,
continue on our quest to keep you up to date and assist
both you and the artists in developing new relationships
through our online guide.
This year's tradeshow was held at M.E.C. (Mediterranean
Exhibition Center) in Peania, Athens from January 14-17.
With about 1000 exhibitors to see, this event organized
by Alpha Omega (Maria Papageorgiou) is always the best show
to see all that is new in the categories of contemporary
ceramics, glass, sculptures, and creative jewelry from Greece.
Artists and wholesalers from all over Greece gather together
to introduce their ingenious creations for the new year
and reunite with their colleagues to catch up on the latest
developments. Despite the discouraging wintry weather, the
show went its course. Shop owners and importers came from
all over the world to make their orders, everyone with hopes
for a lucrative spring and summer.
I spent all four days meeting new artists and visiting
the current members of GreekShoppingGuide.com. Among
them was Tasos
Rallis, new member George
Kokovlis, Maria
Marinoglou, Yiota
and Ioanna Georgiou (Yiali), Carolla
Hartzipavlou, Virus
Ceramics, Cosmo
Chaos, Vally
Kontidis, Armao
Designs, Iosif, Character, and the list goes on! Needless
to say, because these artists are constantly re-inspired,
the newly revealed works are always a treat to see.
For any business interested in importing from Greece and
looking for a wide selection of contemporary Greek art in
many forms, this exhibition is an excellent source! This
trade show will return September 30 through October 3, 2005.
